Disgusting
It is difficult to decide what is more disgusting — María Corina Machado offering her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump or Trump accepting.
It is difficult to decide what is more disgusting — María Corina Machado offering her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump or Trump accepting it. But you don’t have to make that choice. They’re both disgusting. Both Machado and Trump have demeaned the Nobel and rendered the 2025 prize meaningless.
Peace?
Under Trump, the U.S. military pulled Maduro out of Venezuela, killing between 75 and 100 people in the process, but left his repressive, right-wing government in place. Trump made clear that dethroning Maduro had more to do with making U.S. oil companies rich than with ending a drug-dealing dictatorship.
Trump is a champion of democracy?
What a joke.
Trump’s regime violates basic human rights and international law every day.
His “Department of War” has killed more than 100 people in boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific without ever offering proof that they were smuggling drugs.
A vulgar racist, Trump at home has launched a brutal purge of brown people, allowing fully militarized ICE agents to violently subdue and detain American citizens or immigrants with legal standing in the United States. His regime no longer protects hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans who fled their country and took refuge in the United States.
Trump pardons criminals, including those who tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election with a violent attack on the U.SD. Capitol.
I could go on, but it’s not necessary.
All reasonable people — that is, the majority of Americans who are informed and engaged citizens, not brain-washed members of the MAGA cult — know what Trump is. You have long known. You know that everything he does and everything he says rises from that oversized, overactive ego; he is incapable of empathy, and has no understanding of the common good. Every decision he makes begins with a question: “What’s in it for me?”
He’s been talking about getting the Nobel Peace Prize forever, making vulgar demands that it be awarded to him, and getting his sycophants to do likewise.
And now a woman hailed heroic for peacefully opposing a dictator gives her Nobel medal to a wannabe dictator who publicly dismissed her as the possible next leader of Venezuela.
Add Machado to the list of people and institutions — universities, law firms, media companies, all congressional Republicans — who have bent over to kiss the ample derriere of this horrible president. They’re all disgusting.
