Dan. Your suggestion that people write letters to Republican senators is excellent. Recently, I have been calling the offices of senators, after working hours, so all I have to do is leave a message, short and sweet to the point. I have called our Maryland senators several times to thank them for their leadership because I think they need to hear expressions of appreciation. I intend to increase the number of calls I make to Republican senators because of the outrageous behavior of ICE in Minneapolis and now in Maine. I fear that they will soon be on the streets of Baltimore.
Thank you for the information to write to congressmen. I'm wondering if the killing yesterday will be the last straw. A powder keg in Minnesota right now.
Thank you for this idea. I wrote to these senators and also to those who have the highest interest in the Second Amendment or receive the most support from the gun lobby: Sen. Ted Cruz, Marsha Blackburn, Ron Johnson, Roger Wicker (also Rand Paul and Thom Tillis from your list). I wonder whether they will be concerned that a lawfully licensed gun owner was killed despite not drawing his gun or using it in any way during the exchange with ICE.
Thanks for your inspiration. Today's snow day project. I'm putting the finishing touches on my Substack post and compiled a list of 20 or so Independent or less conservative (or up for re-election) republican senators and fired off a letter to them using your template. My two MD Senators hear from me regularly. What is happening in Minnesota is horrifying and despicable...and right in our back yard here in Howard County (so much for "sanctuary"). These are fearful times. Stay Stong
Thanks, Dan, even while you are busy mounting your play No Mean City, for taking such a leadership role in this vital effort to call out what we are seeing on the streets of Minneapolis. ICE has all the trappings of a police state in the making. Interestingly, ICE is part of the spelling for Pol-ICE State.
Once again, nicely stated. You are a great writer and I appreciate your essays so much! Dare I hope that this mess will hopefully soon be over, and that I get to sample some of your stellar writing as you tell us about a scrumptious pie 🥧 you just baked and ate? Of course referring to status quo as a mess is completely undercutting the shittyness, the outrage of it all. Revolting times. Revolting Trump and revolting cronies. 🤮🪓🪓🪓
This is helpful Dan. Can you give us a list of the 10-20 republicans who might be persuaded to vote against the regime? Maybe just elected in 2024, or not planning to run again in 2026 or 2028? Or those in states where they’re relatively insulated against a primary threat by a MAGA extremist?
Thanks Dan. Do you remember the Honorable Charles McCurdy Mathias or J Glenn Beall? I also remember the Honorable Hubert Horatio Humphrey, Eugene J McCarthy and Walter Mondale. Thanks.
Thank you Dan for providing an easy way for folks to get involved. I have found doing anything - protesting, waving, whatever, does make a difference and helps to not feel paralyzed.

Done, just need to get the stamps. Thanks for the list Dan. That helped tremendously.

Yes, indeed.
What if the Republicans senators endorse what is happening? Several have gone on tv to say that they are fine with killing protestors.
They need to hear that they're wrong.
Dan, Is email a viable alternative, or does an actual snail mail letter carry more weight? Thanks!
Writing, printing, stuffing and stamping and mailing a letter shows more care, and yes, carries more weight. That's why I suggested it.
Thanks!
Done. Thank you for making it so easy to do.

Maryland Republicans and Minnesota Democrats.
Snowing terribly here. In the meantime, have a great day.
