Dan-Every day for the past year I wake up to breaking news about what ‘catastrophe is happening today’ and wondering how the daily pace of ‘fire and ice’ can continue unabated. The invasion of Venezuela has happened on only Day 2 of a NEW year! The constant barrage of s*#t from this administration is exhausting. Your words are absolutely correct. There is no redeeming value to anything the administration has done or will do for the remaining duration of this presidency. In fact, the brutality, cruelty, lawlessness, corruption, grift, tearing down of the US Constitution, and for that matter, world order, is frightening. I truly hope course correction will come via free and fair elections. Time will tell.
The media likes to cite all the cheering people in Venezuela. There would be plenty of people cheering in this country if Venezuela captured Trump to face justice in their country.
Agree with your analysis but as Trump "plays president" and enriches himself, he does so as the American president and therefore is acting on our behalf....on MY behalf.....and it is horrifying that anyone in the world can believe our entire country supports his actions.
Dear reasonable, caring, honest, respectful, law-abiding people of the world....I'm sorry.
You nailed it Dan! When you have no shame, no guilt, no thought as to the consequences of your actions, and you need to be on stage at all times, like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum, you scream for ice cream, because your need is to feel in the limelight at all times -- it is that attention that feeds, or tries to feed, the inner hole in your soul. I think other countries that dealt with such destructive leaders, Brazil, recently, and even Berlusconi in Italy, and wonder why are there so many sycophants here? Why is this might makes right delusion so acceptable here?
I've often thought his presidency is being run like a reality show. I'm sure they have a list going where some thing or things are to be released each day (each "episode") to keep us all riled up and effectively overwhelmed. It is planned ahead. And then a really big thing is thrown out there when they need a bigger distraction. I don't think we can ignore the timing of this Venezuela thing as an effort to distract from the Epstein files and (more recently) the release of the Jack Smith testimony.
In his current term, Trump has reminded me of James Cagney as the psychopathic gangster Cody Jarrett in the 1949 film White Heat. Remember the ending? Jarrett (as he is consumed by flames): Made it, Ma! Top of the world! Fallon (the cop): He finally got to the top of the world ... and it blew up in his face!
Your commentary here is very astute and chilling. The reference to The Producers is illuminating, not only because it captures the comical scenario of Trump's mind and presidency but also his eventual end of bankruptcy, of which he is very experienced. The problem is that he could inflict this scenario on the country. We cannot wait. The time is now for the 25th amendment to Dump Trump.
Thank you for a great article. I feel Trump thinks of himself as a Marvel Comic book character vigilante. Some mental health issues and all about revenge.
Thank you so much, Dan. As the song goes, "Money, money, money makes the world go round" but I don't understand how much money this president and his cohorts need to be happy. What is missing in their humanity? Pam
Everyone needs to go back to Fiona Hill's testimony from Trump's first impeachment.
Look on page 58. It was Putin that suggested Trump gets Venezuela in exchange for Ukraine.

I just hope someone is keeping track of the damages. So much occurred in 2025 I’ve lost count, and I know that’s the regime’s plan.

I tend to believe this will only fuel tRump's desire to take Greenland next.
Well done!
Well this oughta distract folks from the Epstein files for a while…
